Tuesday, October 8th, the Bellville Brahmas defeated the Taylor Ducks (10-1) in the UIL Team Tennis Bi-District match. Now, after an exciting season, they advance to the Area playoff match, where they will compete against Needville at Fulshear High School.
For the Brahmas, team tennis is not foreign territory. Though they did not compete in the past ten years, Bellville has history with the sport. In 2014, the Bellville Brahmas finished fourth at the UIL State meet, and while the Brahmas took a pause, the same commitment to success was passed down to the athletes, today.
This summer, Bellville High School saw its return to the courts on Saturday, August 1oth. The Brahmas lost the early season game to Franklin, but came out on top as second in the district.
The rules for team tennis are simple: two teams both compete in various tennis matches to rack up points. From mixed doubles to boys singles, each winning match counts as one point to the total score. It only takes ten points to win.
Bellville finished third in the district, and will compete against the Needville Blue Jays this Friday, October 11th at Fulshear High School. With ten points, they could be following the decade-old road to a State meet.
