BELLVILLE, TX – The Bellville High School (BHS) community demonstrated remarkable dedication to community health on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, by hosting a highly successful fall blood drive in partnership with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.
Held in the BHS Auditorium, the drive saw a tremendous outpouring of support, with 73 participants checking in to donate. Following the screening process, 64 generous individuals were able to successfully donate, contributing critical units of blood to the regional supply.
The Power of a First-Time Donor
The single most encouraging metric from the day was the impressive number of new contributors: 39 individuals made their very first blood donation. These new donors are vital, as they help sustain the blood supply for years to come and keep the donor pool diverse and plentiful.
For many BHS students, this was a crucial lesson in civic responsibility. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a transfusion for various reasons, including emergency trauma, major surgeries, chronic illnesses, and cancer treatments. Since blood cannot be manufactured, the consistent support from schools like BHS is the foundation of the local health system.
Preparation and the Next Opportunity
Students and staff took the preparation seriously, ensuring they were well-hydrated and had eaten a sufficient meal prior to donating. This preparation directly contributed to the high success rate of the 64 donors who were able to give.
If you missed the opportunity to participate this fall, or if you are now eligible to donate again, mark your calendars. The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will return to BHS for its next scheduled drive in February 2026.
