Featuring creative clubs and teachers, a creepy, carnival-themed haunted house, and lots of candy, Bellville High School’s annual Halloween celebration, Trick-or-Treat, starts the spooky season off right for all of Bellville ISD.
Beginning in 2021, BHS Trick-or-Treat started as a way to give families living outside of town a taste of the traditional Halloween activities.
“Many of us live on the ‘outskirts’ of Bellville where it’s impossible to go door to door.” Susan Balke, Student Council sponsor, said. “Every kid should have the experience of wearing a costume and participating in the tradition.”
Usually, a number of families join the fun, but this year was a record turnout.
“We probably welcomed about 50-60 families this year and that’s more than previously,” Balke said.
Every year, many clubs work together to make the event run smoothly. This year was no different.
“We had Science Olympiad, Cheer, TAFE, Leo Club, Mrs. Hancock and Mrs. Hight distribute candy and snacks. Mrs. Bailey and her amazing theater kids created a super scary haunted house.” Balke said. “StuCo is ‘officially’ the sponsor but it’s truly a group effort.”
Trick-or-Treat may be in its early years at Bellville High School, but it has already made its permanent mark on Bellville ISD. Empowered by community, everyone at BHS will undoubtedly keep the celebrations going in the years to come.
