The Bellville Brahmas put up a valiant effort on the road against the undefeated Columbus Cardinals but ultimately fell short with a final score of 49-35 in Friday night’s non-conference matchup. Despite the loss, several standout performances from Bellville’s players kept the game competitive throughout.
On the ground, senior running back Dd Murray delivered an outstanding performance, rushing for 196 yards on 27 carries, averaging an impressive 7.3 yards per carry, and scoring four touchdowns. Junior Izak Hranicky also contributed 95 yards on 15 carries, and Kendrick Turner added 65 yards on 14 carries. Quarterback Ryan Broz passed for 15 yards and ran for a touchdown, capping off the Brahmas’ scoring efforts.
Defensively, senior D’ante Keys led the team with 8 tackles and recorded the Brahmas’ only sack of the game. Junior Davin Sodolak also had a strong game with 7 tackles, while Will Grebe contributed 6 tackles.
The Brahmas’ special teams played a crucial role, with Nic Carlile going a perfect 5-for-5 on extra points. Will Grebe led the kickoff returns with 62 yards on three returns, with a long return of 23 yards.
With the loss, Bellville moves to 2-3 on the season and now shifts focus to their next game against district rival Sealy, who currently holds a 4-1 record after a dominant 55-17 win over Needville.
Despite the defeat, Bellville remains determined and focused as they prepare for the tough road ahead in district play.
